Favorite carols, very playable, will bring much JOY!
50 Christmas Carols for All Harps by Sylvia Woods.

This is one of the first books I purchased, of the many books by Sylvia Woods, and it is a constant favorite. Every carol I have ever sung is in this book . All of the pieces are beautifully arranged and playable by everyone because there is both an easy and an advanced arrangement. Friends and I play these two versions as duets during the Christmas season. This book is a must for all harp players and will bring you and your listeners a lot of JOY!

ACCESS Santa Fe, Taos & Albuquerque
Published in Paperback by Access Pr (March, 1999)
Authors: Harper Collins and Sharon Lloyd Spence
Average review score:

ACCESS Guides are the BEST!
I always find the ACCESS Guides to be the best travel guides overall, and look for them whenever I am about to travel to a new location. So far, I have used their guides to Alb/SantaFe/Taos, Seattle, Montreal/Quebec City, Phoenix, San Francisco, Hawaii, San Diego, and London.

I like their format - they are organized by neighborhoods, so you don't have to seach around through the book all day; and they have an empasis on restaurants and shopping, which I find the other guides don't give enough info on and which are my FAVORITE activities when travelling. Also their print is large, clear, and color coded, which also makes it easy to find what you want (restaurants in one color, shopping in another, tourist sites in another).

It's the best guide to carry around each day while travelling.

African Americans and the Revolutionary War (Journey to Freedom)
Published in School & Library Binding by Childs World (October, 2000)
Author: Judith E. Harper
Average review score:

The seldom told stories of African American patriots
In your standard American History textbook there might be some mention that the first person killed in the American Revolution during the Boston Massacre was Crispus Attucks, an African-American. However, that is likely the only mention of what African Americans did during the Revolutionary War beyond the fact that most of them were slaves. In this informative volume, Judith E. Harper relates over a dozen stories of patriotic actions by other African Americans during that time. These include Prince Whipple, a slave who helped row Washington's army across the Delaware River; Jenny Slew a free African American who was seized and made a slave but regained her freedom in court; Minuteman Salem Poor (honored with a U.S. stamp in 1975); James Armistead, sent by the Marquis de Lafayette to spy on Lord Cornwallis; and James Forten, who invented a new way to raise sails on ship.

I thought I was fairly well informed about people of note during the Revolutionary War period, but Harper goes well beyond Crispus Attucks and Phyllis Wheatley. I would think that young students, whatever part of the world their ancestors came from to reach America, would be impressed with the achievements by the people mentioned in this book. As with all of the volumes in the Journey to Freedom series, "African Americans and the Revolutionary War" is illustrated with historical paintings and etchings, many of which actually show the people Harper is writing about, which is pretty impressive when you think about it. For another volume in this series that covers this same time period check out the book on Benjamin Banneker.

Body Wisdom: Self-Healing Using Chinese and Natural Medicine
Published in Paperback by Thorsons Pub (October, 1997)
Author: Jennifer Harper
Average review score:

Excellent!
I took a course in Chinese medicine and read many books written on the subject, however, until I came accross with this book, all the abstract concepts of Chinese medicine did not really sink in. Harper's book is well written, very easy to understand and presents a great deal of information. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning the basics of Chinese medicine as well as some other natural healing techniques. Her way of writing is healing.

Bomber Command 1939-1945
Published in Hardcover by Harpercollins Pub Ltd (February, 1997)
Authors: Richard Overy and Harper Collins
Average review score:

Perfect Coffee Table book
The photographic material, sideboxes and quotes alone are enough to make this book a 5 star rating; the actual book itself is revealing, involved but does not seem to dwell on individual topics for too long, leaving you feeling you "vaguely read something about that". The material is interesting, there could just have been a bit more of it.

However it offers a very interesting perspective, and the stories and quotes are very dramatic. It's a book you'll keep picking up, and whilst it seeks the truth about Bomber Command, it shows great respect for the men and women who's lives were given and lost in it's operation.

Couple this game with an online WWII simulation like iMagic Online's Warbirds, and it will give you a new insight into the aerial combat.
